This handmade leather Hudson Bay Tinderbox ‘Possibles’ Pouch was originally designed to accommodate, any one of our full range of Hudson Bay Tinderboxes the base of the pouch being curved to the same dimensions as the Hudson Bay Tinderbox itself. It is also well suited to be used with our 1700 ‘Trappers’ Tinderbox and our 1790 ‘ English’ Tinderbox. The originally pouch was commissioned, by one of our clients, to be used with his own Hudson Bay Tinderbox and since then many of our other customers have shown an interest and asked us to make one for them as well.
Each of these high quality Hudson Bay Tinderbox ‘Possibles’ Pouches is carefully made from best quality vegetable tanned 3.5mm (+/-) thick, soft, supple leather that has been fitted with a high quality Press Stud as Standard (Photos shows Sam Browne Studs) that can be opened and then securely closed with just one-hand. A strong full-belt-loop has been Hand-Stitched to the rear of the pouch so that it can be fitted to any belt that is up to 1-3/4 Inches wide. The approximate dimensions of each Pouch 100mm (4 inches) wide by 80mm (3 inches) across by 35mm (1-1/4 inch) deep, and weighs just under 130 grams.
The soft subtle leather used in these pouch will protect a Hudson Bay Tinderbox from scratching and other damage that so easily befalls valuable items of this nature, allowing it to be safely secured to a belt. And whilst the Hudson Bay Tinderbox ‘Possibles’ Pouch was originally designed to house a Hudson Bay Tinderbox, the Pouch itself is perfect for just about anyone – Bushcraft & Survival Enthusiasts, Campers and Hikers etc - who wants a small Hand-Made ‘Possibles’ Pouch that can be used with, or without, a Hudson Bay Tinderbox. Hudson Bay Tinderboxes are beautifully crafted traditional tinderboxes that were used by our forebears during the 18th and 19th as a trades good in the wilderness territories of North America and Canada. Commissioned by the famous Hudson Bay Company during this time these fantastic little tinderboxes were a much-prized item that could be used, in deft hands, to light fire just about anywhere, in mere seconds.

The Press Stud is a traditional fast and secure way to fix two items together, it is also super-fast, very simple and can be done with just one hand.
Here are a selection of Press Studs that you can choose from as Standard. They are shown on various colours of leather to give you some idea of how they will look with a Pouch colour you may choose from.
There are two Standard stitching options to choose from for this item, which are:
Saddle Stitching: Traditional Saddle Stitching gives the most outstanding seam strength there, is by far, far greater than could be achieved with any modern sewing machine.
Cross Stitching: The case is Cross Stitched in Artificial Sinew to give it a more rustic decorative feel. Artificial Sinew is incredibly strong and very resistant to wear, so it will last longer than the leather itself.
The Sam Browne Stud is one of the most secure forms of fastening there is, when you take into account the ease and the speed that it can be opened and closed with just one hand. It is made from a high quality solid brass Sam Browne Stud that is Double-Padded Leather Backed on the inside of the pouch so that it will not damage the contents of your pouch when fastening the Sam Browne. The Sam Browne Stud was invented by a General Sir Samuel Browne back in the 19th century and is still used in many military uniforms to this day as a secure, reliable and fast – one handed- way of securing straps and pouch flaps.
The very traditional leather Toggle method of fastening together two items of leather together has been in use for hundreds of thousands of years, so you can be sure that it works, and works well! The technology is so low that should anything go wrong with the Toggle a new one can be fashioned from some old lace and a bit of leather of bone in just a few minutes. The Toggle will always be made in the same colour as the item, so that it blends in and does not look out of place. The Toggle method of fastening can easily be secured, reliably and quickly with just one hand.
With a FireSteel Loop incorporated into this item you will be able to stow any Army sized FireSteel, such as the Light-My-Fire - ‘Army’ FireSteels or our PyroFlint™ - Army sized FireSteel. If you would like another size of FireSteel Loop attaching to this item, instead of the standard Army size, then please ‘Contact Us’ when you make your purchase and we will be happy to alter the size for you. Please Note: The FireSteel is not included in this option.
