This tinderbox is an exact replica of the 1700 Tinderbox that was carried by old-time early pioneers, trappers, traders, soldiers and frontiersmen of Canada and America in and around the seventeen hundreds. These tough Europeans would have needed a fire lighting method that was reliable, robust and compact enough to be carried with them when weight and space was at a premium.

This ergonomic 1700 ‘Trappers’ Tinderbox is a complete fire starting kit in one small compact and beautifully crafted Solid Brass or Solid Copper box. It was designed for easy and reliable fire making.

The tinderboxes heavy duty Brass or Copper construction protects the fire lighting contents from loss or damage, it is small, and light, enough to be kept in a pocket, and is all that is required to make reliable fires in a traditional way.

The tinderbox includes:

  • A traditional hand forged 'Oval' Flint & Steel striker
  • Amadou Tinder Fungus
  • Char Cloth
  • Jute Tinder Bundle Rope
  • Natural Flint
  • All contained in a 1700 ‘Trappers’ Tinderbox/Tobacco Box

With this great little kit our forebears would have been able to deftly create a fire in mere seconds and in almost any weather conditions that nature could throw at them.

This exquisitely made, high quality, reproduction, 1700 ‘Trappers’ tinderbox, would have been a very popular trade item during the early 1700's in the Canadian and American fur trade era. Made in the U.S.A and copied from a museum original by Tedd Cash, the tinderbox has a hinged, spring clip closure lid. The polished Solid Brass or Solid Copper box measures 97 x 59 x 25mm (3 13/16" x 2 5/16" x 1") and weighs 78 grams, without the fire starting kit, and approximately 117 grams, with the fire starting kit.
